Ed Breuker began his racing career at Western at the age of twenty-six in 1987 driving the #69T Demo Truck in which he finished in fourth spot in the points standings. He finished second the following year and was also voted Most Improved Driver in the truck class and in 1989 was the Season Points Champion with 1294 points. The next year he repeated as points winner and in addition set the truck track record of 20.48 which beat the previous record of 20.73 which had been set by Rick Hartley in 1988.
In 1991, “Ready Eddie” broke his own track record with a 19.80 and set fast time at eleven out of the fourteen events held that season for trucks, also winning nine main events and the Pollard Cup as well as another Season Championship, the first time a LITRA (Lower Island Track Racing Association) driver had scored three consecutive championships in a row.
Yet another points championship and another season track record of 19.78 plus fourteen fast times at fifteen events marked 1992 for Ed with his also winning an award for a fourth number one season finish along with Member of the Year and the McMasters Cup.
He parked his 1979 Ford shortbox truck for the following two yearss to drive the #49 1980 Chevy Malibu in the Thunder Car division, returning two seasons later to Demo Trucks to record yet another season championship. Although 1996 brought him one more great year, Ed decided it was time to retire and sold his truck to Doctor Death, taking to the great outdoors with family and friends on quad trails and fishing expeditions.
When asked about some the best memories of his racing days, Ed responded with “clean sweeps and winning Best Appearing Truck contests along with setting fast time fifteen times in fifteen starts in 1993”. His truck racing record included sixty-two fast times, thirty trophy dash wins, twenty-nine heat race wins, seventy-two main event starts comprised of thirty-eight wins and finishing in the top three in the remaining thirty-four.
Ed was always grateful for the support of his racing sponsors which included Integra Tire (formerly Big O Tire), Just Heads automobile and machine shop service, Capital Radiators, Pacific Western Brewing Co., Langford Janitorial Service, Cubbon Home Centre, Marion Machine and Pit Road Cafe.
