Lance has been involved as a driver, crew member and recently as a car owner for over thirty-six years. He drove Bombers, Street Stocks, Pro Stocks, NASCAR Winston West, NASCAR Northwest Tour, Sportsman, WILROC Non-Wing and NST Winged Cars and has competed at twenty-eight race tracks.
In 1986 he started racing in the Bomber class in the #21 car, a 1971 Mercury Montego and for the 1987 and ’88 race seasons, again in the Bomber division, he drove the #98 Nova and finished in the top ten in points. Lance also entered and won Street Stock races at Port Angeles Speedway and South Sound Speedway in Washington State and competed in an Open Competition Street Stock race at All American Speedway in Roseville, California and made the “A” main event which had a sixty-eight car field.
Between 1989 and 1992, Lance raced in the International Pro Stock series in the Roger Wade Motorsports #98 Camaro and won multiple main events highlighted by his first place finish in the inaugural Montana 200 in 1991 which paid a purse of $1,000.00 to win.
From 1992 to 1999 he entered twenty-five NASCAR Winston West events in the #95 JR Edgett Ford Thunderbird and finished eleventh in the points standings in 1993 which included one second place finish at Portland Speedway, three third place and three third place finishes including the 1993 Motorcraft 500, eight top five and sixteen top ten finishes. TriCities Raceway will always hold a special place for Lance as the track he earned his first and only pole postion start in the NASCAR Winston West series. He also ran a limited number of Northwest Tour races and won a Late Model feature at Yakima Speedway in Bill and Daphne Vater’s #77 car. Lance also made the long trip to Indianapolis Motor Speedway to attempt to qualify for the inaugural Brickyard 400 in 1994.
Lance ran in the BC Sportsman series from 2002 till 2006 and was the Western Speedway Hall of Fame and Museum Sportsman Champion in 2003. From 2012 to 2014 he competed in thirty events in WILROC Non Winged Sprintcars where he recorded four wins, thirteen top five and twenty top ten finishes. In 2021 he was Crew Chief for his son Kyle who drove the #95 Stockcar and in 2022 Lance ran in the final Canada 200 at Western Speedway as well as again acting as Crew Chief for his son in the Stockcar division.
In 2023 he ran NST Winged Sprintcars and finished eighth in points, entered the Pink Lady Classic at Meridian Speedway in Idaho where he finished eleventh and did a third season as his son’s Crew Chief. During the 2024 season Lance once again took the Crew Chief position for Kyle, this time in the LD Industries BC Late Model series and also the Applied Industrial Technologies WESCAR Late Model series. Kyle finished second in points and was awarded Rookie of the Year in the LD Industries series and finished third in points and was also voted Rookie of the Year in the WESCAR series.
