Don Gordon started his many years at Western Speedway as a pit crew member for Greg Court from 1979 until the end of 1982 with Greg winning several races and setting some track records. From 1983 through 1994, Don was Crew Chief for Roy Haslam. They broke track records, won numerous races and clinched championships throughout the Northwest during those years.
Switching hats and duties at the track in 1994, Don became General Manager of “All Fun Recreation Park” and “Western Speedway”. He worked long and hard taking care of the vast property for owner Frank Willie, concentrating on just the Speedway after the water park closed in 2007.
The race season of 1998 saw Don managing the track with Matt Sahlstrom and some major changes to the facility. Don oversaw and assisted in the installation of a new drainage system, the rebuilding and repaving of the race track plus electrical upgrades to the infield. He was also instrumental in getting the oval’s new lighting system installed in 2006.
In addition, Don instituted the issuing of free season passes for all “Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame” inductees.
Thanks to Don Gordon’s knowledge, expertise and hard work, Western Speedway received timely maintenance and several major upgrades that will continue to be enjoyed by racers and fans for many years to come.
